Today, a new project—Confirm Gupta—launched a $1 million campaign in support of Vanita Gupta’s confirmation as Associate Attorney General. A new ad that details her bipartisan support will air nationally on Fox, CNN, and MSNBC, and will also be targeted on cable and digitally across key states, including Maine, Alaska, and West Virginia.
Sarah Longwell, founder of Defender Democracy Together, released this statement:
Vanita Gupta is the rare nominee who has deep cross-partisan support. She has earned the respect of many conservatives as a tremendous ally in the fight for criminal justice reform. We, along with dozens of other conservatives and law enforcement officials, wholeheartedly support her nomination. We believe she is exactly the type of person who deserves bipartisan support from the Senate.
Letters were submitted to Senate leaders supporting Ms. Gupta from numerous right-of-center leaders on criminal justice reform in their personal capacities, including Grover Norquist, Mark Holden, Marc Levin, Brett Tolman, Shon Hopwood, Jessica Nickel, Vikrant Reddy, Jenny Kim, and Arthur Rizer. You can view all of the letters at the Senate Judiciary Committee’s website here.
Tomorrow, Longwell will participate in a virtual press conference hosted by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. She will join other conservatives, law enforcement officials, and civil rights leaders who support the confirmation of Vanita Gupta.
